In simple words and sun-drenched paintings, Alma Flora Ada and Simon Silva take us into the fields and orchards, and into the
lives of the people who work them. Using the letters of the Spanish alphabet as a template, Alma Flor Ada has written
twenty-eight poems that celebrate honor and pride, family and friends, history and heritage, and of course, the bounty of the
harvest. Rosa Zubizareta's translations reveal in English the emotional heart and underlying truth of each poem. The artist,
Simon Silva, grew up in a farmworkers's family, and his extraordinary illustrations speak to us directly from his own childhood.
Awash with light, they will touch your heart no matter what your age.

In this collection of remembrances by those who knew César Chavez best, a portrait of an uncommonly complex man, both driven and focused, yet humble, empathetic and exceedlingly principled emerges. The reader gains an understanding of the yoke César chose to place upon his own shoulders, as well as the ideals he employed to accomplish for the migrant farmworkers, America's most powerless, what many predicted would be impossible. The contributors include the famous - Edward James Olmos, Henry Cisneros, Martin Sheen, Coretta Scott King, Jerry Brown and others - members of the Chavez family, UFW staff and farmworkers themselves.

Jugemos Ninos? contains a cassette tape and book of children's songs, games and rhymes. The tape is recordings by Roberto Mondragon singing and Vicente Saucedo on the guitar with over two dozen songs. The book contains the words, music and instructions for the games in Spanish and English. We hope these tapes/books will inspire others to document examples they have of oral folklore, for if it is not documented, it may eventually be lost. This collection of songs, rhymes, and games for children is unique. It presents us with a blend of New Mexico favorites, coupled with the best of our Hispanic tradition. These books will be powerful tools for all school programs, especially those with a bilingual/bicultural, or multicultural mode. These wonderful books, though, should be of general interest to anyone who appreciates cultural heritage as a means of understanding, enjoyment and happiness.

"Rudolfo Anaya's elegy captures the
love of farm workers and the Latino
community for this irreplaceable hero.
César's life is the lucero, the light that
provides vision to the path, with the
glow of energy generated by the
struggle. This elegy invites all to march
in César's path, to attain the hope and
promise of his legacy, a legacy made
simple by Cesar so everyone can
participate in the quest for justice.
César's lucero spotlighted the
attainable victory, the solution to end
the suffering of farm workers: a union,
where those that feed the world can
end their suffering and have a final
voice over their lives and destinies.
Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the
United Farm Workers:
